Terms of Use
The short version
- Your company uses Remote84 to give you work, record your time and pay you. Your pay and engagement are set by your contract with your company.
- Time is recorded when you run a timer. If your company requires it, Remote84 also takes occasional screenshots and counts keystrokes and clicks while a timer runs. It never records what you type.
- Your company's admins can see your time, screenshots and activity counts.
- Remote84 runs in a browser, on Mac and Windows, and on iPhone. Time tracking only works on the desktop app, because that is where screenshots can be taken.
- Calls, messages, boards and files inside Remote84 are work records your company can see.
- Keep your account to yourself, and don't try to get around tracking or reach information you haven't been given.
1. Who these terms are between
Remote84 is a work-management service operated by Obsidian Research Group ("we", "us"). The organisation that invited you ("your company") uses Remote84 to manage its projects and people. These terms cover your use of Remote84. They sit alongside, and do not replace, your contract with your company.
2. Your engagement and pay
Your role, rate, hours and payment terms are agreed between you and your company in your contract. We are not a party to that contract, we do not employ or engage you, and we do not pay you. Invoices Remote84 generates from your tracked time are issued in line with your contract.
3. Your account
- You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email. Keep access to that email secure.
- Your account is for you alone. Don't share it or let anyone else track time under it.
- Tell your company admin straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
- Accounts are invitation only. Anyone may install the apps, but an account can only be created for an address your company has added.
- You can be signed in to more than one account on the same device and switch between them. Everything you do is recorded against whichever account you are using at the time.
- If you allow notifications, Remote84 sends messages, mentions and incoming calls to your device through Apple's notification service.
4. Time tracking and activity recording
When you start a timer on a task, Remote84 records the time against that task until you stop it, up to any daily or weekly limit in your contract.
If your company requires activity recording, then while a timer is running Remote84 also:
- takes screenshots of all of your displays at random intervals, and
- counts how many keys you press and how many times you click.
Remote84 does not record which keys you press or anything you type, and it records nothing when no timer is running. On a Mac this needs the Screen Recording permission for the Remote84 app, which your company requires before you can track time.
Your company's admins can view your time entries, screenshots and activity counts to review and verify work.
5. Where Remote84 runs
Remote84 is available in a browser, as a desktop app for Mac and Windows, and as an iPhone app distributed to your company through Apple's TestFlight. The apps load the same service, so features appear everywhere at once.
Time tracking works only in the desktop app. It is not available in the iPhone app or the browser when your company requires screenshots, because those cannot capture your screen reliably.
6. Calls, messages and shared work
Remote84 includes direct messages, group chats, project channels, voice and video calls, meetings, shared drawing boards, notes and files. These are work records. Your company's admins can see the work in their company, and anyone on a project can see that project's tasks, files, boards and messages.
Calls are not recorded unless someone writes notes during them. If you ask Remote84 to summarise call notes, or to read a document and draft tasks from it, that text is sent to our AI provider to produce the result. Don't put anything in Remote84 that you are not allowed to share with your company.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- share your account or track time for work you didn't do;
- interfere with, disable or deceive time tracking or activity recording;
- try to access projects, people or information you haven't been given access to;
- upload anything unlawful, harmful, or that you don't have the right to share.
8. Your information
We handle your personal information on behalf of your company, which decides what is collected about you. Account details, time records and screenshots are stored in Sydney, Australia. Some providers we use to send email, carry calls, deliver notifications and run AI features may process information outside Australia. Our Privacy Policy sets out what is collected and who handles it.
To see, correct or remove information about you, ask your company admin. Information is kept while your account is active and for as long as your company needs it for its records.
9. Ending access
Your company can remove your access at any time, and you can ask your company to remove it. Ending access does not change what you and your company agreed in your contract.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters to how your information is used, we'll ask you to accept the new version in the app before you continue.
11. Questions
Questions about your contract, pay or the information your company collects go to your company admin. Questions about Remote84 itself, including privacy, go to norion@obsidiandeep.ai.
